Facial Fillers Side Effects

People who want to look younger have been known to go to extreme measures for their youthful look. Most of these options to look younger used to be very expensive and very risky. New technology, including using facial fillers, has allowed scientists to develop a better way of looking younger without invasive surgery. Since these procedures usually only require an injection it reduces the chance of any major facial filler side effects.

Facial fillers are primarily done by injecting a filler into the facial skin at the specific areas that you and your doctor select. These target areas will be chosen before the procedure begins and will be in places where you want to look younger. The procedure will be completely planned out in advance which makes the process go smoothly and quickly, reducing the chance for any major facial filler side effects.

Before you have your facial filler procedure done your doctor will meet with you to collect your complete medical history. Even though this is a non-invasive procedure and comes with less risk, this is a vital step. This is done to ensure that you are healthy enough to have the procedure done and will lower the chance of having any major facial fillers side effects. It is rare but occasionally, people have an allergic reaction to the filler but you will most likely still be in the doctor's office if you should have such a reaction and he will know how to treat it.

More common facial filler side effects are redness, swelling and soreness in the area where the injections where given. Some people also are able to notice small bumps lying just under the skin, which are usually not visible but can be felt. These facial filler side effects will last anywhere from two to fifteen days but will subside over time and should never be extremely painful. In just a matter of days, your skin should be back to normal.

When to Call the Doctor

Your doctor will leave you with a list of facial filler side effects to look for and let you know if you are able to take any medication for the pain. If you are finding yourself experiencing facial fillers side effects that are not listed or do not seem normal to you, then you should contact your doctor immediately. It is better to err on the side of caution, especially in the hours after your procedure and call the doctor if you are not sure.

In rare cases swelling does not properly go down, if your swelling has not subsided after about two or three weeks, you should call your doctor and make an appointment. It is possible that you will need to have another injection given to help to reduce the swelling. This additional injection will be used to help dissolve the lump under the skin that is causing the swelling. The sooner you can see the doctor after the two or three week period the better chance of success you will have.
