Topical Dermal Fillers
Subcutaneous dermal fillers are rapidly becoming a treatment of choice for women who wish to eliminate facial wrinkles or lines without undergoing a surgical procedure. These treatments are available to anyone who has the money to pay for them. Each treatment will use up at least one vial of filler and each vial typically costs about £300 each. One vial will treat one lip line or one forehead line. You can expect the results to last between six to twelve months.
Are there any Kind of Permanent Dermal Fillers Available?
Recent studies carried out by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (BAAPS) found that people who used longer lasting dermal fillers experienced more problems following their treatments.
About 38% of these surgeons had patients with complications from permanent dermal fillers. Some of these complications were severe enough to require surgery. If you are considering dermal fillers, opt for a semi-permanent one instead of permanent dermal fillers. Surgeons have not reported any complications with patients who used semi-permanent dermal fillers because these fillers are made of hyaluronic acid or collagen. Some semi-permanent dermal fillers are derived from acids from fruits. These are very safe to use.
The common threat amongst the patients who experienced complications with dermal fillers were those whose fillers were administered by unqualified or inexperienced practitioners.
Are there any Advantages to Using a Permanent Dermal Filler?
The main advantage to using a permanent dermal filler is that it is permanent. You will never have to have the treatment performed again. This means you will never have to incur the treatment cost again.
What are the Disadvantages of Using a Permanent Dermal Filler?
Again, the main disadvantage of using a permanent dermal filler is that it is permanent. And if you have this procedure done by an untrained person who does not have a good grasp of facial anatomy and does not understand how the face ages, you could find yourself stuck with a very unflattering and unsatisfactory result which you will not be able to rid yourself of. If you are considering using permanent dermal fillers despite the concerns over possible complications, ensure that you seek the services of a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Though you will have to return again and again for repeat treatments if you opt for a semi-permanent dermal filler again, this type of treatment will be significantly safer.
Semi-permanent dermal fillers have been rigorously studied and are considered safe for almost everyone. They pose little threat for allergic reaction and only rarely result in any significant side effects. The side effect most often experienced is swelling and tenderness at the injection site. This is usually temporary and will usually go away in about twelve hours. Swelling can be treated with an ice pack until it subsides. The other side effect sometimes experienced by people who have dermal filler injections is bruising. Unfortunately, there is nothing to be done about this once it has occurred. Applying makeup to the affected area can help disguise it until the bruising fades, usually within one week.
